lyrics

When I was 20 I was living in Northern CA, going to school, living in a building up in the woods with four guys I hardly knew. One night, one of these guys, who was here on exchange from a country in South America , he busted in to my room shaking, almost vibrating. He said "Leo" he thought my name was Leo, "I'm not feeling right." His voice was pretty angry and he was shaking so much it looked like he might just shake apart. He picked up a cap gun that I had around and put it to his head, pulling the trigger and popping a cap after every sentence. He didn't make any sense and I didn't know how to help him. I was just a kid, I was just glad to get him out of my room.

In my life I can barely see way back then or in front of me.

I woke up in the morning to another roommate that I hardly knew knocking on my door in a panic. He said " So and so is outside in the woods and he's freaking out." So I went outside and saw him standing there in the redwoods and ferns. He was shivering and he was totally naked. He had his arms crossed across his chest and he was hugging himself. He was crying standing there out in the morning mist. He was standing there cold. I didn't know what to do. I got him a blanket and brought him inside and I patted his back until he stopped crying. The next day he wasn't there, he was gone. No one knew where he went but they found his car at the San Francisco airport. I don't know if he made it home but, I hope he did.

In my life I can barely see way back then or in front of me.

Built Like Alaska Oakdale, California

Built Like Alaska: a rock band from California. Surrounded by rolling pastures, a cold river, and stony foot hills, the band has developed their craft to reflect the scenery surrounding them. Bringing a rural perspective to sturdy rock songs, the music has been said to conjure images both "warm and rich as the central valley sun” and as isolated as a “mic stand draped in cob webs...." ... more
